Sprinter Door Width

- Van Living Hi Steph
I noticed you have a blog posting for the dimensions the 144 and 170 sprinter vans. I’m creating a floor plan for a 144 wb sprinter van and I can’t seem to find the dimensions length for the sliding door on the side. I was hoping you might know what the measurements are? I don’t want to overlap the counter with the door.

Hi Brieanne,
This is a really useful site for measurements, and here is the chart he provides for door measurements:
Here’s the spec sheet from the Mercedes website also.
I checked mine which is a 2013 with the 170 wheelbase, and the opening of the door frame from gasket to gasket on the upper area (it’s a little narrower down low) is 55″. I also asked my friend Brittany to check hers: she has a 2019 with the 144 wheelbase, and she says hers measures 51.2″.
With my buildout, the counter actually does extend into the door frame area, which is a little unorthodox compared to the classic VW vanagon design where the kitchen area is across from the side door. It also has a flip-up counter extension, which is amazing when you want to have a full length counter or play “food truck” with your friends.
I worried at first that it would be weird somehow: it turns out, I love this design. I don’t need the full opening of the door to go and in and out of my van, and it gives a lot of extra kitchen space. I also really like looking outside when I’m cooking or cleaning up in the kitchen, which is a nice living element I didn’t take into consideration at first. You can also toss water outside, or hand dinner plates to people outside…there are a lot of nice pluses with putting the kitchen area in this orientation. The counter extends 27″ into my door opening, and the opening width remaining is 28″.
I hope this helps!
Steph
