Hello From a Scorpio!

Steph,
Happy Birthday! They said over at pimpinandcrimpin that you’re a Nov 4
b-day…I’m a Nov 7, so I get really excited about birthdays around
this time anyways.

I’ve been meaning to write you, but I wanted to have something to say,
and I couldn’t come up with a really good question or inspirational
story for you, so thanks for having a birthday so I have an excuse to
say hello. I’ve been following your blog for a month or so now, pretty
much as a result of reading High Infatuation twice the week I bought
it. I even read parts of it to my non-climber boyfriend to try to
explain some of this thing that captivates me. I haven’t had much
outdoor experience (yet!), so I hesitate to call myself a “real”
climber, but I love it. More than a couple days away from it and my
mental and emotional stability start to suffer.

You’re inspirational in that you seem accessible…like the kind of
person that not only rocks and is really good at what she does, but is
realistic and normal. I loved loved loved H.I., so much so that I
passed in on to another climbing friend because I know she’ll
appreciate it.

I’d be elated to hear back from you, if you get a chance. Take care,
and happy climbing.

Hi to Steph and Katie, a fellow Nov. 7 with the same name! I too, love those birthday coincidences. In fact, after reading H.I., which I just found randomly last week and read in three days, I wondered when your b-day was, Steph. No one is as driven as we Scorpios! I feel kind of silly writing about astrology, but other synchronicities are that I have just recently started climbing and am dating a climber (who lives in Sonora), and i could relate to some of what you said in the book about that. I also feel like your book inspired me to apply for Naturalists At Large, which I had been afraid to do because it means being essentially homeless in between programs… But now I’ve started looking up old pickup trucks on craig’s list to live out of! At some point you just have to do it, and I think your story was that final push I needed to take off and do it. Thanks a million for being so open with the world… I’m sure that book was hard to publish (and that there’s waayy more to the Dean story. 😉 Thanks again — Katy

Katy, that’s so great to hear. We scorpios do love each other! I’m glad you got that little extra push 🙂 And really glad my stories resonated with you too… I wish you the best of luck with Naturalists At Large, that sounds so cool! Just remember, the gas prices might spike again, so if you can manage with 2wd, go for a small one!!
    xxSteph
