Expedition Impossible?

Hey Girl!
What’s up with ABC.com using your picture in their ad for Expedition Impossible? If you go to their home page, I swear that’s you climbing an Indian Creek splitter. Are you involved with that TV show or are they hijacking your likeness? I was excited at first. Thought there might be a TV show about you, but it looks like it’s just a bunch of idiots running around in the desert for prize money. Oh well. Thanks for being you!
Teresa

Hi Teresa,
Yes, you are about the 800th person who has sent me this photo and said “????!”

No, I’m not in “Expedition Impossible,” and have no idea what exactly it is, except it’s “Mark Burnett’s most epic competition since Survivor”. Funny enough, I got a random email from a casting agent for Survivor last month asking if I would be interested in their show, which not having a TV, I’d never seen. So I did a bit of google research before answering, and had to say, “thanks very much for thinking of me, but I think that’s not really for me.” It seemed quite frankly, bizarre.

Anyway, after being emailed this picture 799 times, I finally just googled Mark Burnett and called his office in LA and said, “So you have an ad all over the place with a picture of me, with a show that I’m pretty sure I’m not in, what’s up?”

After a few days, I got a call from the Getty Stock Agency. Apparently lots of years ago, I shot some photos on Tricks Are For Kids at Indian Creek with my good friend Jimmy Chin, who uses Getty for some photo sales. So this TV show just grabbed a photo from the stock agency, and bought it. Naturally I’ve always just signed release forms for anything I’ve ever shot with Jimmy so he can make his living, so as a result I have no rights or say in what happens to this photo. You’d think, though, this TV show would have asked at least one or two questions about who the climber is, because now lots of people are thinking I’m in their show, which I am not 🙂

My favorite part is the photoshopped river under the Tricks Are For Kids buttress….how could they possibly have predicted the big flooding we’ve been having in Moab this season?
🙂 Steph

Steph if you had signed on to do survivor do you know how big that show would have been for one season?  At least in my house anyway!  I remember watching the first season when i was in college and it was a lot of fun but haven’t watched it since.  Too much drama.

    Keep doing what you do!

I’d actually watch it if you were along for the ride, but as usual I’ll avoid the tube.  Thanks.

Thanks for clearing that up Steph, I was wondering about that pic too, if you did do a guest appearance, I’d watch it!

Leave it to Hollywood’s version of reality to use such an awesome climbing shot but have nothing in the show remotely as hard or with as much exposure. I wish it did. I’d be interested in seeing the climbing episode with Erik W., although it will be dumbed down climbing so the rest of the teams will have a chance. But I don’t own a t.v. Guess I’ll do without. Easily.
