Hug From Argentina

Hi Steph, I’m a 18 years old absolutely paniote climber, studying physics in Bariloche, Argentina… Right now I’m getting crasy trying to decide if I keep studying or dedicate somehow to mountain… to the thing I love the most, climbing, flying, exploring… but It’s such a difficult decision! And I wouldn’t even know where to start… I’ve thought in so many different options… I saw your Tedx talk and you’ve inspired me since then, I thought you may have some time to give me an advice, I would appreciate It so much! Thank you for your time and a hug from Argentina 🙂

Hola! I always wanted to go to Bariloche, but never was able to leave Chalten to go there–it seems like a pretty perfect place to be studying physics (or anything really). You are already living my best advice, which is to make sure you are in a place that you love where it’s easy to do the things you want to do outside. I think for a lot of people, it would be an ultimate lifetime dream to be living in Bariloche, so you are doing something right!

It seems a lot easier to have balance in life when you can pursue the non-climbing side of your life in a place where you can very quickly get away into the mountains. I don’t think you can have balance without passion.

I do think if you go up high and get into the wind, you will find some answers there.

I agree, get high ..I mean “go up high”..and get into the wind!

Also, maybe if you study geophysics (even physics of glaciers) you can combine your two interests.

And if you take several computer programming classes, you will be able to live and work wherever you want — even at the top of a mountain!

Just my two cents of advice (probably about what it’s worth)

PS After seeing that photo, I wish I had gone to school in Bariloche! Salt Lake City
was nice, but nowhere near THAT nice — though the skiing ain’t bad.
