Beloved Res Dogs

Hi Steph,
I wanted to let you know how much I LOVED your new book. My husband and I were reading it at the same time and finished it on our way back from a recent climbing trip in Sedona & Flagstaff, AZ.

The chapter that touched me the most was your chapter about Fletch. I too have a beloved res dog that I rescued in Page, AZ when she was 10 weeks old. She is by far the best dog I’ve ever had and smiled when you described traits that she shared with Fletch. The only time I was able to get her to snuggle near me was in a tent or in the back of our pickup. I could barely make it through the chapter without balling my eyes out.

Thanks for letting us all in and sharing in your amazing experiences.
Cheers!

Hi Katelynd,
Thanks for writing: res dogs are the best, and I’m glad you have one too! I’m sorry that chapter makes everyone cry: you can imagine how it was having to reread it a million times during editing 🙁 I sure loved little Fletch.

But though she can never ever ever ever be replaced, Cajun is definitely the light of our lives now, and so different from Fletch in pretty much every way–Cajun is a snuggle machine, as well as a wild little jackal and she just makes me laugh all the time 🙂

I’m glad you loved Learning to Fly, and thanks for letting me know!
