Vegan Burger Recipe?

Hi Steph.
I’ve been hunting for a great vegan burger recipe for a looong time.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Ben

We had great success with the matzo ball soup quest: does anyone have an awesome veggie burger recipe?
I want to know too!!

Well, this isn’t my original recipe but I have to say I love me a Spicy Black Bean Boca Burger. I can make it into a bacon burger with veggie bacon strips (Morningstar Farms has a great one). I like Tillamook cheddar on it, but then, I’m not a vegan. The secret is to toast the bun first then mayo on one side and ketchup and mustard on the other. Top it off with lettuce and tomato. Voila!

Look at page 20 of the March 2011 issue of the Vegan Culinary experience for a seitan version – http://www.veganculinaryexperience.com/VCEMarch11.pdf
I tried it recently and thought it was great – very easy, too.  I’ve always found the term “veggie burger” too cute – use “verger” instead!

I found this recipe years ago and love it.  I hope it is what you are looking for and is very easy to make and it can be altered in any fashion.  See below

    1 (small) onion finely chopped
    2 celery sticks, finely chopped
    2 garlic cloves, crushed
    1tbsp olive oil
a tin of beans (kidney or mixed)
a tbsp of mixed herbs – basil, oregano, parsley
1 tspn of coriander, cumin, paprika
    1tbsp tomato puree
    pepper to season
    1 slice of bread

1- Gently fry off the onion, celery and garlic for apx 6-7mins
2- In a bowl, mash the beans and crumble the bread, add to pan with the spices of herbs.
3- The mixture should stick together, if not keep on the heat to vaporise the moisture.
4- Make the patties (remember it will be hot) and then fry for apx 5mins

    Voila tasty burgers…

Raw Vegan Beet Burgers! Haven’t had the time to try them out myself, but they look delicious!

    Beet Burgers on Romaine Buns
Courtesy of Raw Food by Erica Palmcrantz and Irmela Lilja

    2 portions

    3 beets
    2 carrots
    1/4 c. pistachios (optional)
    1/2-1 avocado
    2 tsp. lemon juice
    Pinch of sea salt
    1-2 tsp. dijon mustard
    Several romaine lettuce leaves
    Capers to taste, for garnishing

    1. Finely chop/grate the beets and the carrots, either using a food processor or a grater.
    2. Put the beets, carrots, and pistachios into the food processor.
    3. Add the avocado, and blend.
    4. Season with lemon juice, sea salt and mustard. Start with 1 tsp. of mustard, adding a little more if you want a stronger taste.
    5. Put about a 1/2 c. of the mixture on each romaine leaf; Garnish with capers.

Enjoy! And let me know how it turns out, if you decide to try it.
