Synthetic Sleeping Bags

Hey Steph.
I’m in the market for a lightweight, ultra-compactable sleeping bag, and I wondered what your favorite sleeping bags are.
All the Best,
Hope

Good morning Steph!
I would like to get your advice on sleeping bags! I am in the market for a new zero degree bag and do not want to purchase a down one for ethical reasons. May I ask what brand you would recommend or what you use?
Can’t wait for the vegan cupcake recipes!

Hi Hope and Lori,
I have a couple of recommendations for super warm and super light synthetic bags. For a warm winter bag, check out the Mammut Alpine UL Winter Sleeping bag. I especially like the fabric that Mammut uses, and the hood is roomy and easy to uncinch from the inside.

For lightweight bivy use, I use a couple of different systems. For a regular sleeping bag, I like the Mammut Kompakt 3-season bag. It has fleece lining at the feet, which I love! But I also really like the Thermarest Regulus blanket. It’s lighter and a more versatile way to go and you can easily snap two of them together for more comfortable car camping if you’re with someone else. I’ve found that I use the blanket a lot more than a regular sleeping bag in warm weather.
🙂 Steph

Not sure if this isn’t inappropriate (if so please feel free to delete), but for a slightly different approach, you could also check out Ray Jardine’s quilt kits – the foot pocket’s a great concept, plus I’m super proud of using something I’ve made myself.

Well worth looking at the Mountain Hardwear bags. When I was looking before the UltraLamina (now called HyperLamina) had the best warmth / weight ratio of any synthetic bag I could find. I have the UltraLamina 15 and I’ve been really happy with it.
