Pitches With Pros

The Pitches with Pros drawing is almost coming to its finale, so I wanted to let everyone know about it….

This is a great program. Thanks Mammut, for helping out urban youth, and for making it possible for me to be a part of it too!

Here’s what you should know:

Mammut USA has teamed up with Big City Mountaineers, a non-profit organization, to create Pitches with Pros.
The drawing is under way now and ends 1/11/09.
5 winners will be drawn and paired up with one of five Mammut climbers:
Dean Lords
Dean Potter
Steph Davis
Will Mayo
Sean Jones
$5 per entry or 5 for $20
All proceeds benefit Big City Mountaineers

Big City Mountaineers is an organization that takes urban youth on a weeklong backpacking trip free of charge. Each trip consists of five youth, five adult volunteers, one peer leader and enough food and clothing for five days. The experience can change these kids’ lives, and introduce them to an entirely new world, of the wilderness, and the experience of sharing in the outdoors. “when asked on the hike back to the vans, “Do you feel different since we left a few days ago?” Ruby said something like…I feel like I have grown up in these last few days. I am much more appreciative of what my dad does and I know he is doing his best for our family.”

“We stayed up late one night to watch the stars. One of the boys who had been having a negative attitude came out of his tent and looked up and said quietly, “that is beautiful”. I have never heard him use this kind of language or express this kind of sentiment before. I really got to see a different side of him.”
“I don’t even need my cell phone! Now I get it!”
“On the fifth day, the girls were tired, dirty and homesick, but I overhead one of them announce to the others “just think…if we can do this, we can do anything!”)
