Ocean

Good Afternoon Steph,

this Friday I visited Your website. What You write about the feelings You have during Your climbing tours touch me.

I admire Your courage. Since some times I am interesting in athletes who are practizing extreme sports. Rock climbers, apnoe divers and big wave surfers.

You are risking Your life while doing that. There are always questions about Your motives.

I donĀ“t want to bore You but let me tell You what come to my mind when I am watching You and Your collegues doing these abnormal activities.

Personally I am not an extreme athlete. I don`t have the courage to do that what You are doing.

I am a long distance swimmer. I enjoy swimming long distances of about 10 km and more in the ocean. I also prefer water no warmer than 18 or 20 degrees celsius.

Although it is not dangerous what I do in comparison what You are doing always when I enter the ocean and start to swim I suddenly feel the greatness, the allmighty of the ocean and I see how tiny I am.

But after some times I got an incredible feeling of joy I never have on land. Last year when I was swimming before the shore of Mallorca I suddenly felt how my heart widened. I cannot describe this emotion in other terms. I was swimming about two meters or so under the ocean surface. The sun was shining. I saw the light of the sun through the blue water and then I felt sheer happiness and peace.

I was surrounded by an incredible harmony, grace and beauty. I was part of the universe. Swimming is an excellent form of meditation.

Never ever I could risk my life as You do on each of Your tours, but I think, I feel probably the same what You feel during Your climbing.

But opposite to me You have to be full concentrated and exetremely focused on what You are doing from the very beginning of Your tours. In contrast I start swimming without full concentration on what I do.

This concentration developd while I am swimming. Although my swims are physically harmless I am full of fear when I begin to swim. But after an hour or so these fears vanish and I feel a deep peace and joy and harmony in my mind and my heart.

I believe that during Your tours You will become an integral part of the universe while You are regarding the cosmic beauty and harmony.

As far as I learned studying Your website You are also searching for the inner truth of the universe, that means what is coming after our death.

Certainly You know Jiddu Krishnamurti. Please watch what he was telling about meditation, death and love.

Steph, I wish You all the best. Please take good care of You.
It would be a great pleasure to hear from You

Yours sincerely
Thomas

Dear Thomas,
Thank you for writing to me, and thank you for your beautiful letter. I am always afraid when I am in the ocean, so it’s amazing to read your feelings about swimming alone far out in the water.
It really means a lot to me. Thank you.
xxSteph
