Dear Steph,
I wanted to express my deep gratitude for sharing so much of your experience.
I started climbing last year at 39 and picked up one of your books. I could not put it down. Not just for my fascination with this new beautiful activity that puts me on rocks and presents so many mental and physical challenges, but because I found your narratives so human and honest. I appreciate how real you are with the world. I admire all you have done and accomplished and your willingness to share your insight. I feel much of the mainstream, even including climbing, can get superficial and washed out.
I have a young 4-year old daughter who has started climbing, and I cannot wait to see where it takes her. I am also thankful she might look up to women like you as she grows up. Our beautiful planet needs strong leaders and especially women, and I know the younger generation will benefit from all you have shared with the world.

Thank you so much for writing to me, and for your nice words! How cool that your daughter is already climbing with you! I hope she continues to have fun with it for as long as she wants to. I also can get a little baffled by the mainstream world… I guess that’s why we create our own world 🙂
