hi steph,
i hope this finds you and dean having a great winter!
i met you at the base of the captain when you and russ were fixing for beth coates on zodiac. i was stumbling around big time back then. as a result of dilligence i have come far enough to have done pervertical sanctuary myself this season, cleaning and jugging behind my friend michael haag. it was my second time up the diamond, having done d1 in 94. what made this ascent all the more powerful for me is the fact that i was carried in and out much of the way for the previous one. i did this one with my poles as my only form of assistance. can’t wait to get back up there this summer!!
checked out your website after reading the writeup in alpinist about your audacious 07 on the diamond. proud! love your website and am very inspired by your audacious solos of the casual route and pvs. while up there i thought of derek’s solo, and how ballsy it was. though we used ropes for our ascent, it did have some interesting moments. we did the last pitches in a waterfall. that last long one mike freed with water just splashing all over him. big fun!

It’s great to hear from you, and congratulations! It gave us such a boost to see you at the base of El Cap, before heading up on the Zodiac with Beth that time. It’s awesome to hear that you are charging even harder now!! You are a real force. Getting up to the base of the Diamond is burly, and hard for me to imagine doing it like that, with poles. That is a truly an inspiration. Way to go, and I’ll be thinking about you next time I’m up there!
