Hello From Lucas

HI Steph
I was reading your website and wondering do you have any advice to live the climbing life as much as possible (ie. being a dirtbag) I am a ninth grader and my life is revolved around climbing any advice is much appreciated because you (and Steve house ) inspired me to climb.
Thanks Lucas

Dear Lucas,
Don’t let your mother see this 🙂

I imagine you live in the States? My best advice to you, is take advantage of the freedom of being a teenager, and roadtrip as much as you can during school breaks. The best thing I ever did in life was to start dirtbagging before I ever got a real job or had any money. Well, actually, I never quite stopped, or got a real job….but that’s another story. When you’ve always been pretty broke, it’s not a big hardship. So keep the standard of living low!
You’ll probably run into a tiny little bit of resistance from your parents…..so put their minds at rest by earning money for your first car and your travels, and send them lots of emails and phone calls during your summer roadtrips. And assure them that OF COURSE you want to go to college! Going to college is an ideal setup for the dirtbag climber! So it’s win win, and everyone is happy.
Have fun Lucas!!
xx Steph
