Officially Mom Approved

Just before I went to Quebec last week, I posted what I thought was just a fun wingsuit video from a bunch of flying over the summer….“Kinda Busy.”
I had some neat footage of a spinning parachute malfunction that I cut away when I was jumping in Lodi, so I stuck that in there too. Much to my surprise, people thought that was a pretty dramatic situation! (The vimeo stat counter seems to be having an odd subtracting instead of adding malfunction right now, but it got almost 15,000 views in the first few days I put it up.)
Even more dramatically, it also made my mom unable to sleep for many many nights! (or so I’m told) She was not happy.
Oh dear. Skydiving is not death defying. I mean, you have a reserve parachute for pete’s sake, what can possibly go wrong? Why all this drama?
My first reaction was: note to self: do not send vimeo links to parents!
But then I thought, hold on. It’s just a question of presentation! I mean, isn’t everything, really?
But seriously. Skydiving is fun and safe (mostly), that’s why we do it! (Well, maybe we also do it to hone our wingsuit skills for base jumping, but that’s not the point.)
So when I got home from a lovely trip to Voltige yesterday, I made this video just for my mom!
Pas de Deux from steph davis on Vimeo.
And, got an official email back within minutes!
“Hi Steph and Mario, It was a great movie, nice music and scenery, but my favorite part was when you were both on the ground! How about a call before you leave and we want to see you. Love, Mom”
I am proud to report this one’s fully mom-approved.
Hey Steph…great video!
What’s the song and artist you used?
Thanks!
Paul
Thanks! The song is called “Etrange” by a Quebecoise duo called Dobacaracol.
Awesome video!
You both looked really free in the sky.
Amazing!
Haha, that sounds exactly like something my mom would say in regards to my climbing. Parent’s can be crazy. I still remember my dad griping at me when he saw a photo of me about 10 feet off the ground without a pice of gear in. Just glad he hasn’t seen me climb The Flatirons. 🙂
awww! 🙂
