Hello from Squamish

Hi Steph,

I’ve been following your blog ever since I picked your book up off the shelf at a local bookstore and madly read through it over the next couple hours. I wanted to say thank you for writing it so honestly. It actually helped my family understand why I go out and do the things I do.

I wanted to send you this article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1291596/Climber-risks-life-rescue-abandoned-dog-350ft-canyon.html. After reading about Fletch and knowing this is fairly close to your home, I thought you would enjoy seeing a happy ending to whatever terrible circumstances brought this dog into the canyons.

That’s pretty much it except I also wanted to ask if there are any stellar multi pitch routes you would recommend in and around Moab. I plan to be in the area for about a week in the fall and would love to get up some fun towers. I’m climbing 10s confidently right now and moving into 11s but, the majority of my climbing is on solid granite (Squamish). I’ve just started looking at routes in Indian Creek and can’t believe the sheer amount. So far we’re looking at The Six Shooters and Kor-Ingall on Castelton to start.

Cheers and thanks again,

-Matt

Hi Matt,
Thanks for writing to me! My sister in law sent me that link too. So heartbreaking 🙁 If I could change one thing in the universe, no one would ever intentionally hurt another living creature again. Period.

The North Six Shooter is stellar, and the first tower route I did in the desert. Be forewarned about the Kor-Ingalls….at the crux section, it’s harder than one would expect of a 5.9 route, I think! The North Chimney is actually a more consistent climb, despite the two small crux sections. I highly recommend Fine Jade also, on the Rectory. The crux is a finger crack, and pretty straightforward climbing. I also really like the left Tombstone route, up the dihedrals.

Fall in the desert is the best 🙂
Steph
