Vegan Reading

Dear Steph,

I am not as athletic as you are but I am quite active in every day matters as the job demands. Recently, I have attempted to go vegan but found that the absence of animal proteins “seemed” to not provide the nutrients needed for long hours and physical stamina.

Do you have any suggestions or links to sites that may help me gain a stronger balance of protein with a vegan diet?

You seem to have found it after checking out your website.

The incident with the flying suit must have been a heart-pounding thrill. The worst I have gotten into was flipping a three wheeler dirt trike at about 60 mph. All I ended up with is a compressed fraction of one of my vertebrae.

Looking forward to your response if you have time,

Ron from Taylors SC.

Hi Ron,
I highly recommend doing some research on Scott Jurek. He is an incredible ultrarunner who is vegan, and he takes his diet pretty seriously. Also, I know in the past I’ve talked to men who believe that highly active males “need” animal protein, and I think Scott is a good person to look at to see how that’s not really the case.

For protein, I like to eat quinoa, almond butter, lots of nuts, tofu and beans and legumes.

Take it easy on that three-wheeler! Scary 🙂
Steph

Many of the most successful athletes worldwide are now vegan. While they may differ in that they have decided to go vegan to avoid animal cruelty, for their health, to reduce environmental impact, or other reasons, they have one large similarity. They have proved that excellence and veganism often go together.

Myths still persist that state that it is not possible to be vegan and be successful in sport. These myths do not have a foundation in science, and athletes build muscle, endurance and ability on plant sources and many go on to achieve great things. The performance of these athletes is proof that veganism can and does enable excellence

Check out Brendan Brazier too. He’s a pretty awesome vegan athlete! He also has a whole commercial line to help athletes eat vegan and perform well.
